Revolution! – The Young Karl Marx – film screening
Ahead of Karl Marx’s birthday, join us for this film screening of the critically acclaimed The Young Karl Marx as part of Counterfire’s Revolution! May Day Weekender event.
Note: You DO NOT need a separate ticket for the film screening if you’ve already booked for the Revolution event.
Directed by Raoul Peck, the Oscar-nominated director of I Am Not You Negro (2016), The Young Karl Marx re-raised the spectre of communism in 2017, but had a very limited release in the UK. So we’re proud to bring the film back for this special screening!
The film follows the life of Marx as he is forced into exile and develops his political worldview along with his collaborator Friedrich Engels. It is a historical drama which manages to be entertaining, informative and geared towards reclaiming Marx as a figure for our times, not just his own.
At the start of the screening, there will be a short introduction by Katherine Connelly, biographer of Sylvia Pankhurst. The screening is situated in the middle of a weekend of discussions on the political crises we face and how the left can organise.
