A dozen local activists from Hands Off Our Public Services spent Sunday lunchtime asking people in Whitechapel to sign a petition opposing government cuts to public services.
The response was overwhelming from all parts of the community. People lined up to sign the petition and many spoke of their fear for the future as services start being slashed. No one we spoke to supported the cutbacks. Many pledged to protest on Wednesday 20 Oct the day of the cuts are announced.
