This weekend’s election results are a warning. Mainstream politics is broken and the right are making gains in some places. But results show too that a vibrant, radical left can break through. It’s time for the left to get its act together.

This weekend’s Dangerous Times Festival at Rich Mix is the only event that brings together all parts of a potential new left, anti-capitalists, Labour activists, campaigners from the People’s Assembly and trade unions, Left Unity supporters, feminists, anti-racist campaigners and Greens.

We are very pleased that Danielle Obono from the French Left Party will be joining acclaimed playwright David Edgar and Counterfire’s Season Butler to discuss Ukip and the resistable rise of the right.

Owen Jones will be shining a light on the murky world of the British Establishment in Who runs Britain? Kate Hudson (Left Unity), Chris Nineham (Counterfire) and Luke Hildyard (Greens) will be discussing The future of the Left.

Other panels include I’m a worker – get me out of here! Organising in precarious Britain; Women and austerity, glass ceilings and sticky floors and Why you should support Scottish Independence. There is radical spoken word from Different Skies, A brief people’s history of music from Faithless guitarist Dave Randall and a debate on Can Labour win the next election and so what if it does?

There is comedy from Jen Brister, Steve Parry and Jeremy Hardy, a Unite the Youth forum, the film of an outrageous sixties “happening” and a host of surprises. On top of all this, Russian anti-capitalist Boris Kagarlitsky will be joining us to bring a Russian perspective on the crisis in the Ukraine.
