Demonstrators in Liverpool call on the trade union movement to get off its knees and fight, reports Madeline Heneghan
300 marched and held a rally at the Port of Liverpool on Saturday in solidarity with 800 workers disgracefully sacked by P&O ferries. RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said P&O sackings show bosses are openly colluding to break every law meant to protect workers and that no workers are safe.
He also spoke of the ‘super exploitation’ of workers from other parts of the world. Many other groups of workers from different unions were there in solidarity with P&O workers.
Glenroy Watson from the RMT Black Ethnic Minority Committee said the trade union movement needs to get off its knees and fight, he said we will not fall for the bosses’ tactics of divide and rule. Paul Nowak from the TUC called for reinstatement of all sacked workers and spoke of how the pathetic nature of employment law has been exposed.
